LUCKY ME!

8 04 2007

less than 12 hours after the mysterious death of my mobile aguy with a 4-wheeler on site crashes inside the parking of our site offices, hits 4 cars including mine…

Guess who’s here??!

21 12 2006

First thing in the morning, I’m still alone in the office, just picking up the phone when I saw a small white n grey head popping up from behind the drawers close to the door! It reminded me of a hamster i had, it had long white hair, it was very active, and I got it as surprise gift –don’t get me started on how I love surprises- and most importantly its rotten dead in our backyard in Amman so this cant be it! This is just a mouse! IN MY OFFICE!

I was like: huh! (shah2a) when I heard my coworker from the other office: yeah the mouse? I saw it sneak into your office from under the door and forgot to tell you before you get in!!

So it “sneaked” in? Under the door? So that means it can go anywhere!

I slowly moved and looked around for something to throw at it and have it killed since it was still too early to get help! It ran quickly out and was out of sight!

Later I told my colleagues, and they didn’t seem as shocked as I was. Being the only female from our 120-150 employees on this project (look at the bright side, I have my own toilet  J ) and my first time on site, they did some casual explanation: this is very common on construction sites, its good it was just a mouse and not a rat or a snake!

Me: Okay?? So what do we do now? Live with it? It could be anywhere!!

Them: yup! Exactly! Searching’s a waste of time! If they get too much we’ll get people to kill them!

Me: but it was small! I’m sure it has family!

Them: yes… do you think this one dropped from the sky? It’s a huge site!

Cool! Live with it!

Since that, every now and then you hear someone laughing: the mouse! The mouse! Or: catch it we’re on lunch break!

For me, that’s like living in an action movie: I open the doors slowly, and look around, kick the boxes, look behind everything, make sure the place is clear before I get in! all i need is a gun and im james bond!

SO, U GOTTA CONFESSION TO MAKE?

2 10 2006

hope I’m not just trying to assure myself with this, but I’m sure a lot of people have some crazy things they do or used to do in the office… I’ve heard a couple of funny habits from friends… but instead of telling those I’ll tell you one myself!

When I graduated and started working, waking up and being on my desk at 8 was the worst part (and still is I guess) I did manage to do that though… but couldn’t help falling almost asleep while looking on the screen and holding the mouse.. I’m not a morning person… I confess… I used to go to the toilet, put the seat cover down, sit and have a 10 minute nap!! And it worked; actually I used to get more awake after that!!

Yallah, i went first… let’s hear yours!!

LAMMOUSH @ THE PEARL

11 09 2006

Sooo… I have been finally assigned to join the team working on the multi-billion man-made islands of 400 hectares (yup! you know what a hectare is) THE PEARL OF QATAR.

The pearl, located in and called after the place where they used to dive searching for pearls (the symbol of Doha), is located 20km north from the city center, it was designed to have 40 000 residents in 11 000 houses and apartments. the first phase of four would hopefully be completed in 2007 and first investors are to take up then. The plans to have a 5-star hotel on each one of the three islands with capacity 800 might double since the area is enough to have two hotels, the project was also designed to have 3 marines mooring 700 boats, beach clubs, yacht clubs, commercial centers, recreation facilities, and the number is increasing along the design development stages… the project is divided into zones, each with a special theme or spirit, combining eastern and Spanish styles, with a variety of choices, apartment buildings, beach houses, cluster houses, and even palaces (yeah there on that thing that looks like a kite tail! if you’re checking “images” on the official site)

this pic is of the current status, the site offices are pretty close to the gate! sure u cant see me but u can see better pics on their website :) weeeeeeee

points of weakness and strength??

14 07 2006

well in this case, its all points of weakness.. i dont see where the points of strength are “strengthenning” anyone.

im so sad, frustrated…

i go down the streets: yeah.. well it seems as if the biggest event now is a small earthquake in the far east, not war on lebanon..

when i think about it my head gets too noisy, how come such huge events are happenning with so little attention??

ok isreal attacks? not surprising. but for how long will we just “wait”, and i dont say ” watch”, no we r waiting, waiting in line.

ok.. any comment? well many countries had at least a comment on this, we cant even have a comment??

i remember the first time i went to lebanon, those old buildings distroyed by war and still standing looked so painfull to me, although i have never experienced war, what would it be like for those who did.

i was more or less proud, and happy they managed to do something and come out after all that distruction, and yesterday i had this pain again.

the pain of our silence, it eats me up inside.

this attitude.

when i meet arabic people of different nationalities i feel some kind of a ” smile of the soul” i think: how beautiful it would be if we all had more events to share. we have some kind of connection. then thinking abit of how torn, how full of complications we are, i couldnt even think of the over-all situation since every one country has so many complications its difficult to see a whole clear picture, u end up with headache.

now that sounds dreamy ha? away from reality, well maybe reality is so ugly im starting to daydream?

yes this is ugly. all of it. and no matter how complicated politics might seem, at the end of the day, people who may not even know enough about it end up in graves, if they were lucky to get any.

why is something so obvious and so clear for everyone to understand gets ignored? and crazy unfair things… yes they also get ignored.. this “i couldnt care less” attitude… these accumilations over the years.. did we just learn to live with them, die with them, how worthless can life be?
