21 10 2006

I’ve been planning my Eid vacation for over a month, got my visa, got my tickets (after some headache with the reservation) got my leave approved, got my (must-see) list, got all the other details planned and was ready (and excited) to my trip to Tunisia.

I have friends there, some are cousins, some have parents here, I thought I give them a call and see if they need anything!

Me: aloo 3aslema! (alo mar7aba)

3ammo: 3aslema (seems ma3joo2)

Me: shna7walek 3ammo ca va? (keefak 3ammo mnee7?)

3ammo: eih ca va kol 3am wenti b5eir.

Me: yodhorli enti bel 5edma (bet-hayya2li innak bel sho’3ol) o eni man7ebsh en3atlek (o ana ma beddi a3atlak) amma barka 7abbeit nqollek enni eni besh nemshi ltounis ba3d ‘3odwa (bas 7abbeit a5abrak inni ray7a 3a tounis ba3ed bokra) en kan thamma 7aja t7eb nhezhalek m3aya tnajem tqolli (iza fi ishi bet7eb twaddeih ma3ay bte2dar t2olli)

3ammo: la 5ater eni zeda besh nemshi ltounis 5ater il walda mreda o ta3ba barsha (la2 le2anno ana Kaman raye7 le2ano il waldeh mareda o ta3baneh kteer) barka yelzamni taw nel9a 7ajz feesa3 o na5uo ijaza mel 5edma (bas beddi halla2 ala2i 7ajez bsor3a o a5od ijazeh men il sho’3ol)

(Sounds urgent, ha?) allah ysa3edha o ysa3ed ahelha bhal zarf.

I knew my friends there had a grandma who’s kind of sick. Before my flight things got worse and it was obvious that the timing of my trip was inappropriate!! its good i knew this in time though!

So I woke up Thursday, canceled the leave at work, canceled at the travel agency, and just went out instead of packing!!

So I’m spending my first Eid here in Doha!!

My parents on the other hand, always make up their mind on what to do on vacations on the last minute (as if all the airlines would be holding seats for them to any destination) and as with many previous experiences, when they do make up their minds, it would be too late to get tickets! in some cases u cant even get urself on a waiting list! and they go like: benla2i 3ad walaw.. lol!!

Oh and by the way… HAPPY EID J

DOHA ASIAN GAMES TORCH RELAY

10 10 2006

Yesterday, Sunday 8th October, The Doha 2006 Torch Relay began with a lighting ceremony in Doha, Qatar as the start of the longest relay in the history of the Games; more than 3000 torchbearers will have the torch traveling over 50,000 kilometers to 15 countries and regions through Asia in more than 55 days.  The message of the “flame of hospitality” touring Asia is welcoming nations to join the 15th Asian games in Doha.
Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Heir Apparent of the State of Qatar, lit the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006 Flame at the Doha Golf Club where many sheikhs and other diplomats attended the ceremony. The 45 students of the military forces academy had lights placed on the 45 tables of diplomats representing the countries participating the Asian games.

After having lit the torch yesterday, it will go through 15 Asian countries before returning to Doha. The torch is to be carried via land, sea and air, and to be carried on trains, by foot, on camels and horses, by traditional boats of Asia and many other means of transportation.

The torch (like Orry, designed in the inspiration of the Oryx and colored in white and maroon as in the Qatari flag) will reach Qatar again in November 25th from the port of the north after leaving Bahrain. It will then be carried by 1000 people, Qatari citizens, residents and sponsors representing 67 nationalities taking turns to eventually get the torch to Khalifa stadium in Doha, on 1st December, declaring the beginning of the opening ceremony of the 15th Asian games, on which I will be performing as one of around 30 thousand volunteers who are working in many fields in and outside Qatar.

The Doha 15th Asian games 2006 will take place from 1st to 15th of December and will end with the closing ceremony, and I will surely post more about the ceremonies and the games while we’re on countdown and also during the days of the games.
